Kontain works alongside environmental consultants on lining supply, liner optimisation and design input, as well as geobag feasibility, layouts and supply.

Define the interfaces early.
Your team establishes the environmental objectives and acceptance criteria. Kontain contributes the agreed lining or geobag scope, coordinating material specifications, optimisation, design input and supply with the appointed designers and operators.
Use an early system layout to test feasibility
For lining projects, define the containment duty, exposure, ground conditions and installation constraints. Review the liner, protection and drainage layers together so material selection, details and the site layout develop on a common basis.
A workable options assessment needs more than an assumed bag count. Start with the solids and water balance, representative testing, available land, access, filling sequence and final solids destination.
Kontain can develop pad and drainage arrangements, bag dimensions, plans and sections, and stack layouts and modelling where required. Those outputs help the project team identify what needs investigation before committing to procurement.
Translate the selected option into a material package
Develop the required barrier, cushion, drainage and fabric specifications around the project conditions. Review polymer or bentonite compatibility, thickness, surface finish, durability evidence, interfaces and installation constraints. Liner optimisation can then consider suitable grades, layer arrangements and roll formats against the required performance.
Where standard formats are awkward, custom roll dimensions, cores, strengths or laminations can be investigated. Manufacturing feasibility and verification requirements are confirmed before these become part of the offer.
Keep the design and supply arrangement clear
Kontain's agreed geobag design and planning scope is included when Kontain supplies the geobags, liner and associated materials. The scope, deliverables, exclusions and supply basis are agreed before the work proceeds.
For standalone lining projects, agree the material specifications, optimisation, design input, deliverables and commercial basis separately. These services are available without a geobag package.
Where the owner's procurement process requires equivalent alternatives, the project team can define performance requirements and the evidence needed to assess substitutions. Kontain's commercial interest in supplying the proposed materials remains clear.
Questions before committing
At what stage should we involve Kontain?
Options assessment or early design is a useful starting point, while footprint, programme and material selection can still change. Send the available site plan, material data and environmental objectives; missing inputs can then be identified together.
Who owns environmental acceptance and final design?
Responsibilities are set in the agreed project scope. Environmental assessment, classification, approvals and acceptance criteria remain with the appointed specialists and asset owner. Kontain's geobag and material design inputs are coordinated with the responsible project designer; they do not replace the wider project design.
Is this relevant beyond dredging?
The same early coordination can be useful for wastewater lagoon maintenance, industrial pond upgrades, quarry wash-water residues, mine-tailings dewatering and containment or closure works. Each application still needs its own technical and operating basis.
