Kontain GCL Polymer
A formulation option for saline water, aggressive cover-soil leachate and process liquids where conventional sodium bentonite needs additional compatibility assessment.
The reference construction uses polymer-modified bentonite powder in a standard reinforced GCL. Heavy-base and laminated combinations require their own confirmed construction and compatibility schedule.
Reference specification.
These are declared reference-condition values. The salt composition, test conditions and supporting reports must be confirmed. The peel-strength value is withheld pending clarification of inconsistent reporting units in the source schedules.
| Property | Method / basis | Value |
|---|---|---|
| Dry bentonite mass | ASTM D5993 | ≥3,700 g/m² |

| Swell index, stated 20,000 ppm salt-water condition | ASTM D5890, modified test liquid | ≥22 mL/2 g |
| Fluid loss | ASTM D5891 | ≤18 mL |
| Tensile strength, MD / cross direction | ASTM D6768 | ≥10 / ≥10 kN/m |
| Static puncture | EN ISO 12236 / ASTM D6241 | ≥1,600 N |
| Hydraulic conductivity, stated tap-water condition | ASTM D5887, declared test liquid | ≤5.0 × 10⁻¹¹ m/s |
| Hydraulic conductivity, stated 20,000 ppm salt-water condition | ASTM D5887, modified test liquid | ≤1.0 × 10⁻¹⁰ m/s |
| Hydrated peak internal shear at 10 kPa normal stress | ASTM D6243 | ≥30 kPa |
Review the full TDS for the construction, tolerances, test conditions and supply requirements. These values are not a statement of lot-specific conformance.
Selection and installation.
A 20,000 ppm salt-water result does not establish seawater, acid, alkali, metal-rich liquor or universal chemical resistance. Test the actual exposure and expected hydration sequence; specify compatible polymer-modified seam accessories.
Common rolls are 5 m × 30 m (150 m² gross). Custom dimensions, bentonite masses and plastic or steel cores are available by order. Confirm gross roll mass and clear core bore before lifting.
Provide the liner section, contact-soil grading and chemistry, liquid analysis, slope, loading, installation method and delivery requirements.
