Geotextile beneath rock armour and riprap
The rock provides the exposed protection; the underlying filter helps retain the base soil while allowing water movement. Selection must address soil retention, hydraulic response, clogging and survival of rock placement.

- Detail overlaps, anchorage, edges, transitions and any protective bedding.
Woven filter fabric or nonwoven geotextile?
Choose from the required opening size, flow response, strength and installation demand. Weave construction and deformation matter for woven materials. For nonwovens, mass alone does not define filter or protection performance. Kontain confirms the selected construction and supporting data in the project submission.
Filter fabrics and surface erosion-control mats have different jobs
Filter geotextiles used beneath rock or within drainage works should not be specified as a substitute for a vegetation-establishment blanket or turf reinforcement mat. For exposed surfaces, describe the runoff, slope, vegetation and service-life requirements so the correct product category can be identified.

What data should accompany a filter-fabric submission?
The specified opening-size and hydraulic properties, strength and survivability properties, durability requirements and nominated test methods. The applicable grade data and manufacturing evidence are confirmed before procurement.
Does a filter geotextile stabilise an unstable slope?
It performs a filter function within the designed protection system. Slope stability, hydraulic protection and structural reinforcement require their own assessments.
