Research overview

Two full-scale cover sections and a calibrated three-dimensional seepage model quantify leakage through a hole in a 0.15 mm flexible vapour-barrier geomembrane with and without small crossed wrinkles. A single 115 mm storm dominated the monitored leakage, and wrinkles increased water storage above the hole; the thin test membrane, cover soil, slope, hole and wrinkle geometry limit transfer to typical 1–2 mm HDPE or LLDPE covers, and part of the interrupted record was reconstructed numerically.
