HDPE, LLDPE or a geosynthetic clay liner?
Polymer liners provide a manufactured barrier with joined panels and detailed penetrations. A GCL is a mineral barrier whose suitability depends on water chemistry, hydration, confinement and the complete design. Material selection should address exposure, deformation, water depth and construction access.
Protect the liner from the ground and landscape finishes
Review subgrade preparation, cushion geotextile, stone features, cover soils and planting details. Penetrations, anchor trenches and edges should be shown before installation. Trees, furniture footings and later landscaping works must be coordinated with the liner footprint.
Pond storage, overflow and groundwater
Confirm inlet, overflow, drawdown and groundwater conditions with the designer. A liner does not solve an inadequate overflow or groundwater-uplift problem. Where retained irrigation water is needed beneath open space, an underground tank may be a separate option.
