System boundary
The geofilm lowers baseline flux but does not make the overlapped installation equivalent to a welded geomembrane.
GCL TECHNICAL DATATECHNICAL DATA SHEET · AUSTRALIAN FORMAT
Reinforced GCL with polyethylene geofilm
A needlepunched sodium-bentonite GCL laminated to a polyethylene geofilm to reduce baseline flux in liquid-containment applications.
A higher-head or exposed-liquid pathway where a coated composite GCL is useful, subject to overlap, penetration, uplift and interface design.

PUBLISHED PERFORMANCE
Values below are presented in Australian engineering units. CETCO’s published ASTM methods are retained; the units have changed, not the underlying test method or acceptance basis.
| Property | Published / specified value | Test method | MQC / published frequency |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bentonite swell index | ≥ 24 mL/2 g | ASTM D5890 | 1 per 50 tonnes |
| Bentonite fluid loss | ≤ 18 mL | ASTM D5891 | 1 per 50 tonnes |
| Dry bentonite mass per unit area | ≥ 3.7 kg/m² | ASTM D5993 | 1 per 4,000 m² |
| GCL grab strengthMARV | ≥ 7.8 kN/m | ASTM D6768 | 1 per 20,000 m² |
| Peel strengthMinimum | ≥ 0.61 kN/m | ASTM D6496 | 1 per 4,000 m² |
| Index fluxMaximum | ≤ 1 × 10⁻⁹ m³/m²/s | ASTM D5887 | Weekly |
| Hydraulic conductivityMaximum | ≤ 5 × 10⁻¹² m/s | ASTM D5887 | Weekly |
| Hydrated internal shearAt 9.6 kPa normal stress | 24 kPa typical peak* | ASTM D6243 / D5321 | Periodic |
* Published typical peak value after hydration at approximately 9.6 kPa normal stress; not a minimum design envelope. † Published RESISTEX U20 ST maximum in deionised water and 0.02 M CaCl₂. Current factory certificates and project specifications govern.
DESIGN TRANSPARENCY
A compliant index value does not remove project-specific hydraulic, stability or installation risk.
The geofilm lowers baseline flux but does not make the overlapped installation equivalent to a welded geomembrane.
Evaluate overlaps, penetrations, cover, uplift, wrinkles and hydration under the project head and construction sequence.
ASTM D6766 excludes geomembrane, geofilm and polymer-coated backings. Agree a suitable project-specific compatibility protocol instead of citing it uncritically.
SUPPLY + CUSTOMISATION
Approximately 209 m² gross and 200 m² effective after standard overlaps. Confirm current factory dimensions, mass and origin for every order.
A budgeting assumption only. Final payload and pack plan require CETCO confirmation. Full production and freight lots generally support the strongest landed rate.
Alternative reinforcement and RESISTEX formulations can be evaluated where slope demand, adjoining interfaces or site liquid require a different configuration.
