KGCL-C

Kontain value-engineered PE-geofilm-laminated GCL

A reinforced sodium-bentonite GCL laminated to a discrete 0.20 mm polyethylene geofilm on the upper nonwoven face, with a bentonite core and woven carrier on the underside.

Kontain position

A cost-led laminated option for higher-head or liquid-containment applications where an integral PE geofilm is preferred. Overlaps and detailing still govern system performance.

PUBLISHED PERFORMANCE

Metric values, with the test conditions visible.

GRI-GCL3 Rev. 5 defines a geofilm as a polymeric film no thicker than 0.25 mm. Because KGCL-C is laminated to a discrete 0.20 mm PE film above the nonwoven cap, it is treated as a reinforced geomembrane/geofilm-related GCL—not as a polymer-coated-geotextile GCL. Supplier values and contractual GRI-based acceptance requirements are distinguished below.

The supplier sheet identifies the 0.20 mm PE laminate and GCL-core properties. The film exceeds the 0.10 mm GRI-GCL3 minimum for a geofilm, but classification is not conformance: density, MD/XMD break tensile, dry composite mass and aged film retention must still be evidenced in the current factory MQC report.

DESIGN TRANSPARENCY

What still needs to be verified.

A compliant index value does not remove project-specific hydraulic, stability or installation risk.

01

Construction

KGCL-C is laminated—not polymer coated. A discrete 0.20 mm PE geofilm is laminated to the nonwoven upper face; the woven carrier remains on the underside of the bentonite GCL.

02

GRI classification

At 0.20 mm, the PE layer is a geofilm under GRI-GCL3 and KGCL-C is assessed in the reinforced GM-GF-related category. The separate GT polymer-coated category does not describe this construction.

03

System boundary

KGCL-C is a geofilm-laminated GCL, not a welded geomembrane. Overlap continuity, penetrations, wrinkles, uplift, cover placement and confinement remain active design issues.

04

Evidence gate

The present supplier sheet does not by itself establish full GRI-GCL3 conformance. Require the current MQC plan and report covering the incoming PE film, geotextiles, bentonite and finished GCL, plus order traceability and project conformance testing.

05

Hydraulic evidence

Do not transfer the KGCL-ST D5887 hydraulic-conductivity value to KGCL-C. GRI-GCL3 does not prescribe D5887 permeability or index flux for the GM-GF-related category; the project must define suitable composite-barrier evidence.

STANDARD WIDTH5.85 m

The reference roll is 30 m long. Roll length is customer-selectable, subject to factory roll mass, lifting, handling and transport confirmation.

CUSTOM LENGTHSet to the project

Kontain can nominate panel length to suit pond geometry and reduce end joints. Gross and effective areas are recalculated for the approved order length.

ORDER ASSURANCEFilm + GCL evidence pack

Current film and GCL MQC results, certificate of analysis, roll and lot traceability and an agreed conformance plan are required before release.
