Geotextile Dewatering Containers

Geotextile Dewatering Containers (otherwise known as Geotubes of Geobags) offer a simple, low-energy solution for rapidly drying out sludge with solids content above roughly 1%. If the material can be pumped, it can typically be dewatered using these containers. The process is passive, requiring minimal external pressure: once the sludge is pumped in, water seeps out through the geotextile, while solids remain contained.

Depending on the particle size and solids distribution, a flocculant may be added to bind fine particles—particularly common in biosolids or well-graded sludges that could otherwise clog the geotextile. In mining or coastal tailings applications, where solids are often larger or more uniform, flocculants are less critical, and the heavier particles naturally settle out. This ensures up to 99% solids retention while producing clear effluent for discharge.

Because geotextile dewatering is scalable and relatively easy to deploy, it can be a practical, low-energy choice for projects needing a rapid fix. While skilled labor is recommended for setup, the overall system requires significantly less infrastructure than mechanical dewatering methods, making geotextile containers a reliable and cost-effective option for a range of industrial, mining, and coastal applications.
